Making an appointment with our chiropractors is a great first step toward health and wellness, but what happens when you walk out our office door? You can continue taking steps to improve your well-being and get the most out of your chiropractic care. Follow these tips to make that great post-adjustment feeling last.
Be Consistent
We often remind our patients that healing is a process, and the problems you may be experiencing with your joints or spine didn’t happen suddenly. They are more likely the results of damages done over time, and healing will also not happen overnight. At your appointment, we will discuss your treatment plan, and sticking to it is one of the most important steps you can take for continued healing and health.
Practice Proper Posture
If you leave our office then go sit slumped behind a desk, you aren’t helping your body stay aligned! Check out this post for tips on improving your posture, and take a break once an hour to get up from your desk and move around. Your body will thank you!
Stay Hydrated
Water is so good for you that we wrote a whole blog post about it. It helps keep your spinal discs and joints supple and lubricated, and drinking enough water can help remove harmful toxins from your body. What’s the right amount to drink? Aim for about half of your body weight in ounces of water each day. That means if you weigh 180 pounds, shoot for 90 ounces daily.
Get Good Rest
Restful sleep is another important component of healing. Try to sleep on your back or your side, not your stomach, and use a pillow that adequately supports your neck. To remove stress off your joints and spine, consider sleeping with a pillow placed between your needs when you sleep on your side. Create a bedtime routine that encourages good rest, like turning off electronics an hour before laying down and going to bed at the same time each night.
