6 Tips for Summer Wellness

We know it’s not technically summer yet, but we are so excited for the new season that we are planning out how to make it a great one already. Follow these six tips for summer wellness to stay safe and healthy while enjoying all that summer has to offer.

1. Stay hydrated.

Drink fluids throughout the day, and especially an hour before you head out into the sunshine. To flush toxins from your body and keep your kidneys working properly, aim to drink 80 ounces a day. If you get bored of water, try infusing it with some fresh fruit, like strawberries, limes or oranges, to stay hydrated in a refreshing, delicious way.

2. Protect yourself.

Lather up with sunscreen before enjoying the great outdoors. Whether you are heading the the beach, the golf course or just a picnic in the park, you’ll need protection. Remember that UV rays can still be powerful, even on our cloudy days. Reapply frequently, and if you do manage to burn, apply aloe vera for chemical-free, natural relief.

3. Get moving!

We’ve all done a lot of staying indoors over the last few months in light of the coronavirus. N ow is a great time to get moving! Make exercise a fun part of your summer routine. Hit the hiking trails, dust off your bike or take long strolls through your neighborhood. Even gardening can be an effective workout. The options are nearly limitless, and there are many ways to get active while still practicing social distancing.

4. Take care of your feet.

Do you love flip flops but hate the way they affect your feet? Look for a pair with a thick sole, firm arch and good traction. Wearing a flimsy pair with no support can lead to poor posture and cause your pelvis to become misaligned. They can even cause pain in your feet, ankles, hips, back and knees.

5. Shop local.

Farmers markets are abundant in the summer, even if they may look a little different this year.  Feast on local fresh organic vegetables, fruits, herbs and honey. You’ll support local businesses while making healthy, delicious choices for your family.
