6 Tips for Summer Wellness

Want to have the best summer ever? In addition to making the most of each day, you’ll also need to stay fit and healthy. Follow these tips to feel your best all season long.

1. Stay hydrated.

Drink fluids throughout the day, and especially an hour before you head out into the sunshine. To flush toxins from your body and keep your kidneys working properly, aim to drink 80 ounces a day. If you get bored of water, try infusing it with some fresh fruit, like strawberries, limes or oranges, to stay hydrated in a refreshing, delicious way.

2. Protect yourself.

Lather up with sunscreen before enjoying the great outdoors. Whether you are heading the the beach, the golf course or just a picnic in the park, you’ll need protection. Reapply frequently, and if you do manage to burn, apply aloe vera for chemical-free, natural relief.

3. Get moving!

If you spent winter hibernating due to the weather, now is a great time to get moving! Make exercise a fun part of your summer routine. Hit the hiking trails, dust off your bike, grab a tennis racket, take long strolls through your neighborhood, jump in the pool or join a softball team. Even gardening can be an effective workout. The options are nearly limitless!

4. Take care of your feet.

Do you love flip flops but hate the way they affect your feet? Look for a pair with a thick sole, firm arch and good traction. Wearing a flimsy pair with no support can lead to poor posture and cause your pelvis to become misaligned. They can even cause pain in your feet, ankles, hips, back and knees.

5. Shop local.

Farmers markets are abundant in the summer. Feast on local fresh organic vegetables, fruits, herbs and honey. You’ll support local businesses while making healthy, delicious choices for your family.

6. Commit to wellness.
